CANADENSIS, Pa. (AP) — The search for the suspect in the deadly ambush of a Pennsylvania State Police barracks in the Pocono Mountains is in its ninth day.

Police lifted a shelter in place order and are allowing residents to come and go, but are urging everyone to use caution and stay out of the woods where the hunt is underway for 31-year-old Eric Frein (FREEN).

Frein is described by authorities as a self-taught survivalist with a grudge against police.

Teams of law enforcement officers and the FBI are searching a remote area of northeastern Pennsylvania , where Frein lived with his parents before he was named a suspect in the Sept. 12 assault. Police say a gunman used a high-powered rifle and opened fire, killing Cpl. Bryon Dickson and wounding Trooper Alex Douglass .
